Bob Southard Story; "Skunk" Makes Home in Hall of Fame"
By S.A.F.E.R. Staff

Bob Southard, the "original skunk, began figure-eight racing in 1963 along with his teammates Ed Nagle, Andy Noya, Richie Reid and Bobby Hauk. With only $800, Southard built his first race car, a 1951 Chevy Coupe, donning the number 75. One of his most memorable races is finishing in second place on Championship Day on ABC's Wide World of Sports. In 1977 he retired, selling his 1968 Chevy Corvair to Tom "TK" Kraft, his first Figure 8 car. One career ends and another begins.
