"Where it all began..."
Ricky Miller Inducted Into S.A.F.E.R. Ernie Maynor Memorial
Hall of Fame"
By Joe Larsen
March 23, 2009--- Ricky Miller was a writer for The Gator
Racing News for over 38 years. For four decades he reported on racing not only
on Long Island, but throughout the Northeast and anywhere else a Long Islander
traveled to race. Most of us cannot remember when we met Ricky Miller for the
first time, but we all remember him just being there with a pencil and a small
note pad. He was honest and told it like is is when it came to the racer. He
wrote the facts and touched on rumors and often got to the bottom of the rumor
mill and presented the facts.
Ricky, in the early days also worked on race cars and helped many a team back in
the early days. He was a dedicated race fan as well, traveling each and every
week from Lynbrook to Riverhead. Arriving early, he would set up his blankets in
the grandstands and enter the pit area to speak to race teams. He knew when to
put the pad away and offer advice, or allow a team to vent. Often accompanied by
his wife Karen, Ricky would walk from car to car, trailer to trailer, and was
around at the end of the evening recapping the nights events.
Ricky was also the co-host of the Speed Racing Radio Show with Jeff Bressler,
Mike Fields & Joe Larsen.
